A German military decoration from the Second World War period, established on September 1, 1939, to honor military personnel who sustained wounds or injuries during combat operations. The silver badge represents the second class of this award and was presented for the third or fourth wound, as well as for hearing loss resulting from combat trauma, loss of a limb, or facial disfigurement. An oval wreath of laurel leaves frames the central composition depicting a 1935-pattern military helmet, beneath which are crossed swords. The award’s design derives from a similar decoration of the First World War period; however, the 1939 version is distinguished by the presence of a swastika in the lower portion of the wreath. Throughout the war years, a substantial number of silver class awards were issued, reflecting the scale of casualties sustained by the German armed forces across various theaters of military operations.
