The S84/98 bayonet is one of the most recognizable symbols of the German soldier during World War II. Representing a further development of the earlier S84/98 model, it was adopted as the standard bayonet for the Mauser Karabiner 98k carbine and was mass-produced by the German weapons industry. Due to its widespread use, this bayonet remained in service with the Wehrmacht throughout World War II and today represents one of the most popular collecting areas for German edged weapons.

The “cul 41” marking indicates that the bayonet was manufactured in 1941 at the E. Pack & Sohn factory (E.Pack & S marking) in Solingen, where the letters “cul” represent the military manufacturer’s code assigned under the system for concealing German weapons enterprises. This period is characterized by mass production of K98k bayonets for Wehrmacht needs during the expansion of military operations on the Eastern Front.

The blade of this example was never sharpened, which is of particular value to collectors as it indicates minimal combat use or warehouse storage of the item. The absence of resharpening marks preserves the original blade geometry, significantly increasing the collectible value of the specimen.

Matching numbers on the blade and scabbard confirm their original pairing from the time of manufacture. Such examples are encountered considerably less frequently due to combat losses and postwar reassembly; therefore, they command higher collectible value among collectors of German edged weapons.
