Wehrmacht Heer tunic of a member of Infanterie-Regiment 17 (Braunschweig).

An interesting uniform item associated with one of the traditional regiments of the German Army. The 17th Infantry Regiment was formed in 1921 with the creation of the Reichswehr, drawing its personnel and traditions from units of the former Imperial German Army. The regiment continued the traditions of several Prussian, Brunswick, Hanoverian and Jäger units.

Of particular interest is the green piping used on the collar, shoulder straps and cuffs. This green piping is associated with the Jäger traditions represented in the history of Infanterie-Regiment 17 and is a distinctive feature of this tunic.

In 1935 the regiment received the designation Infanterie-Regiment 17, and from 1937 it formed part of the 31st Infantry Division. The tunic is therefore interesting not only as a Wehrmacht uniform item, but also as an example of the continuation of the rich regimental traditions of the old German Army.
