A Very Rare And Highly Collectible American Flintlock Secondary Martial Or “Kentucky” Pistol By Halbach & Sons Circa 1795.

8 and 3/4 inch round iron barrel with no proofs, .56 caliber. The plain iron barrel with “wedding rings” at breech typical of early flintlock martial pistols though Flayderman states “No known military contracts”. Plain bolted, stepped lock with classic “Halbach” swan neck cock and “Halbach” filed frizzen spring.

The most interesting and unique feature of all Halbach pistols is the oversized brass buttplate with high relief raised American eagle holding a large shield surmounted by thirteen stars. The brass mounts are characteristically American including triggerguard with rudimentary acorn finial and sunburst. Finely sculpted brass sideplate.

Walnut fullstock with primitive carving behind breech tang. Condition is untouched throughout with only one very minor loss to stock behind breech tang. Bore is fair and lock is functional on full and half cock. A classic piece of Americana as well as an important Federal Period flintlock pistol.
